Bright Lights At Midnight

Bright Lights At Midnight is an independent design studio established to provide design and visual communications solutions to clients from a wide range of industries - from business and corporate entities, to social networking communities, to entertainment and arts groups.

Yes, this delightful place also happens to be where I'm currently making magic daily. Aside from all designing, we're also working on some personal projects that we'll be announcing soon! Exciting times.

In the works are plans of a project of having design trips around Southeast Asia (Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia by this year) with collaboration with Kakireka. We'll be happily teasing you now till May when you come back to read about it.

Beautiful Losers and design conferences

After the overwhelming response from
last month of Helvetica the Movie , I've been trying to get my hands on this documentary. Click on the image and watch the trailer.

Synopsis

Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture. Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories...speaking to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth.

An interesting article on the alarming increase of design events and conferences, but the lack of depth of so many. Isn't it time we went beyond show and tell? written by RICK POYONR from Creative Review.

Updated Programme on Reimagining The City

RE-IMAGINING THE CITY focuses on our shared urban future through the eyes of designers, architects, film makers and creatives. Curated by the British Council and onedotzero, Re-Imagining the City is part of CREATIVE CITIES, a cultural and artistic project promoting global citizenship across East Asia.

Through two days of films, visual art and sound, discussion and reflection on the city we inhabit, featuring UK and Malaysian creatives, we will explore the role artists play in how cities are planned and experienced and how they help us understand our surroundings as we view the city through their eyes.
